Pickwick March 2011:
Water Temp: 48-51
Clarity: Stained to clear
I apologize for getting this up so late in the month. We have been busy with shows and other obligations so we haven’t’ been on the water much. Here’s what I know:
We’re not quite there yet but it’s getting close. I try to keep telling my self it’s just February. The warm weather has gotten me stirred up a bit and impatient. I’m ready willing and able but the fish aren’t. We are catching a few and they are quality fish. I think by the next full (3/29) moon, things will be wide open with several patterns working. Look to for fish to be moving into shallower water by the end of the month.
We have caught some nice largemouth this week 2/21-26 mostly on Jerk baits like the Wild Shiner and lipless crank baits especially the Red Eye shads.  Use brighter colors in dingy water or low light conditions. Current flow has been light with the mild weather. This (in my opinion) has curtailed the Smallmouth bite as we are catching mostly Largemouth right now. Bay Springs’ water temps are 46-51 depending where you are on the lake. There should be a good spinner bait bite set up by the end of March as well providing the weather stays mild. Roger and I will be at the Bass Pro Shops in Memphis. TN on 2/25-27 come see us if you are able. Please be careful on the lake March is a known for being blustery!
I'll update this post after the 1st week in March

Thanks for the tip. I'm a city boy but my new gf is a fishing fanatic and just speed-reading all posts to make sure I don't look to ignorant.  Wink
