Toyota Angler of the Year Championship

Submitted by Full Limit Outdoor Media

The Toyota Angler of the Year Championship kicks off tomorrow on Sturgeon Bay in Wisconsin. Although the AOY title has already been claimed by Aaron Martens, the event isn’t without its share of suspense, drama and excitement as several other anglers are vying for spots into the 2016 Bassmaster Classic on Grand Lake in OK. Classic spots from the Elite Series is earned by your points standing in the AOY race. Therefore, there are several anglers “on the bubble” so to speak, in terms of ensuring their qualification. Here is a list of the Strike King Pros that are needing a good week on this famous smallmouth fishery to solidify their spot in next year’s Classic:

Mark Menendez - Mark was well within Classic qualification going into the last event, St. Clair, where he finished 87th and fell to 49th in the points. Mark needs a big week on Sturgeon Bay!

Jonathan VanDam – Hot off of a 9th place finish at St. Clair, JVD heads into the AOY event in 47th place. A top ten this week would all but punch his ticket. Todd Faircloth – Todd start off his season about as bad as he ever has. He didn’t make the cut in any of the first 5 events. Since then, he’s he finished well at the Chesapeake Bay and won the whole shooting match at St. Clair. He starts the WI tournament in 40th place. A top 25 should seal the deal.

Mark Davis – Mark has won a Classic and been to the big show 18 times. He will blast off 35th in the points and really needs to finish in the top 30 to make it 19.

Here is a list of Strike King Pros that are pretty much a lock to be fishing in Ok in February based on where they sit in the points heading into tomorrow’s derby:

  • Greg Hackney – 9th
  • Jordan Lee – 15th
  • Keith Combs – 17th
  • Kevin VanDam – 24th
