Today kicks off the final regular season event of the 2016 Bassmaster Elite Series. It has been an epic year for some, and a tough year for others. Classic hopes and dreams are on the line for a few guys at this event as is typically the case for the last tourney of the season.

Let’s take a look at how each member of Team Strike King is sitting in the Toyota Angler of the Year standings as they head out on the Mississippi River in Lacrosse, WI.

2nd – Keith Combs – As consistent as it gets (5 top 10’s this year alone!). Finishes higher in the standings every year.

4th – Greg Hackney – Has been on fire! A DQ away from being in 1st and potentially securing another AOY.

7th – Jordan Lee – Has been the biggest mover on the Strike King Team this year. 3 top 10’s, including a 2nd has anchored an awesome sophomore season!

26th – KVD – Has had his “comeback” year to quiet all the naysayers. 3 wins in a season = LEGENDARY!!!!

28th – Todd Faircloth – Todd, a 14-time Classic qualifier, is as consistent as it gets and is on pace to attend the 2017 Classic as well.

36th – Shaw Grigby Jr. – A member of the $2 Million Dollar Club, Shaw needs to finish well in Lacrosse and at Mille Lacs to punch his ticket to the 2017 Classic, which will be his 16th.

37th – Andy Montgomery – Andy is also on the Classic bubble. He’s had 2 top 10’s this year.

47th – Mark Menendez – MM has cashed 4 checks this season, including a final day appearance at Winyah Bay. I’d say that he’ll have to do really well at Lacrosse & Mille Lacs to make the Classic.

64th – James Niggemeyer – James has made 3 checks this season (including a 12th at Wheeler), but has had a couple tough tourneys as well.

79th – Mark Davis – This future Hall-of-Famer has had a sub-par season by standards. Has cut a couple checks, but has failed to make a top 12 day this season.

84th – Dennis Tietje – Dennis has had a tough 2016 season. The highlight was a 15th place finish on Toledo Bend. He’s had 2 other close calls with the check line.

86th – JVD – Although a youngster by most standards, he’s a veteran at this game and this has been arguably his hardest season. You can bet this won’t happen twice in a row.

91st – Matt Lee - A tough sophomore season for Matt. Several close call tournaments away from being in Classic contention.

108th – Jay Brainard – Jay crushed them in the Opens to get here. Has been a few near misses away from a much better rookie campaign.

The AOY event will be held September 15-18 on Mille Lacs Lake in Minnesota
