Fishing with Chad Brauer

More Of Chad's Favorite Lures

Chad BrauerEditor's Note: Twenty-nine-year old Chad Brauer, from Osage Beach, Missouri, has fished professionally for six years. He won the 1996 Tennessee Top-100, has had nine top-10 finishes, has competed in the BASS Master's Classic and enjoys fishing with Strike King lures.

Question: What is your second favorite Strike King lure, and why?

Answer: The Premier spinner bait. Most of it has to do with the techniques I use. Spinner bait fishing goes hand-in-hand with the shallow-jig fishing. The spinner makes a great tool for catching the shallow-water fish that may just be out roaming or feeding.

Question: What are some weather and water conditions in which you have fished this lure?

Strike King LuresAnswer: Cloudy and/or windy conditions are the two times that I use it most -- anytime the fish are out, away from the cover a little bit more. I tend not to use the spinner bait quite as much in calm and sunny conditions because the fish tend to be up in the cover a little bit more. I still fish for bass with a spinner bait the same way, because you never know when that one dumb fish is out there waiting to be caught.

Question: Are those the fish you go for?

Answer: The dumb fish are the ones I like the best. I can't seem to find many of them lately.

Question: How much do you depend on your GPS and your depth finder? What brand of those do you use?

Chad BrauerAnswer: I use Humminbird/Zercom electronics. I only use my electronics for finding fish about 10 to 20 % of the time. But I frequently use my GPS while navigating some of the bigger waters. When you get a half-mile offshore and get a couple of bites, pinpointing the location is much easier with GPS than marking the spot, lining it up in two different spots and trying to find it again.

Question: All that comes in one system?

Answer: Yes.
