Dearman's Final Pick

Editor's Note: Fifty-three-year-old Randy Dearman of Onalaska, Texas, has fished professionally since 1983. He has fished in the BASS Master's Classic seven times, as well as achieving numerous top-10 wins across the country. Dearman works as part of Strike King's pro-fishing team.

Question: What's your final pick for your favorite Strike King lure?

Dearman: The new Strike King 3X Craw. It has so much potential. People aren't going to believe everything you can do with it. It has so much buoyancy, just fishing on a Texas rig or as a trailer on a jig. Whenever you stop this bait, the pinchers immediately float straight up. It just gives it more action. Often when you flip it around a bush, a dock or a rock and it hits the bottom, it'll rise up and incur a number of strikes.

Question: Do you think the pinchers coming up trigger the strikes?

Dearman: I really do. I think the bass see the bait when it comes in and it is suddenly sitting there. When the bass rise up, I think they think it is the real deal and they have to have it.

Question: So, when you flip the 3X Craw you let it sit for a minute?

Dearman: I let it sit for four or five seconds before I move it.

Question: What are your favorite targets to flip the 3X Craw to?

Dearman: I think lay-down logs are probably what I prefer to flip to than anything else. They have a lot more cover on them. I work it all the way down the log. The forks are another great place for flipping because there is more cover there.

Question: What is your favorite 3X Craw color?

Dearman: I think the black-and-blue is probably the best-all-around color.

Question: On what size jig head are you flipping the 3X Craw?

Dearman: When I flip it on a jig head, it can be from a Bitsy Jig, using the smaller one, or the bigger jig. You have two sizes in it. If I'm throwing a little bait, I use the little trailer. If I'm using a bigger jig, I'll use a bigger trailer.
