Question: What about colors today, do you use anything different?

Brauer: Yeah. Colors are a way that you can really gain an edge. I don't really call that tricking the bait out. I think it is just common sense. Some of the colors are seasonal. Obviously, early in the spring, the fish are feeding on crappie. That's common knowledge. You must try to match the hatch. During the summertime, go with a shad color.

During wintertime, when they are definitely on the shad, try to match the hatch but take a little step further than that and also attempt to match colors according to the water clarity of the body of water. During clear water conditions, try to go with your natural colors. During stained-water conditions try to go with colors that may generate a little more interest from the fish, the chartreuse colors the brighter paint colors.
