Mark Davis
Strike King Series 4S Crankbait Tactics
Editor's Note: Thirty-eight-year-old Mark Davis, of Mount Ida, Arkansas, won the BASS Masters Classic in 1995, the Angler-of-the-Year title in 1995, 1998 and 2001, and is ranked third by www.bassfan.com for bass-fishing expertise.
Question: Tell me your third-most-favorite Strike King lure.
Davis: Definitely the watermelon-shad-colored Strike King Series 4S crankbait is a big favorite of mine. I use the Strike King Series 4S because it’s a good crankbait to fish in heavy, shallow cover. I can use this lure around logs, bushes -- any kind of hard shallow cover where I want that lure to deflect and bounce off. The Strike King Series 4S does a good job.
I fish it on 15-pound-test and even 20-pound-test line in heavy cover. Many folks don’t fish crankbaits in that manner. However, this is the one lure that if you are going to start trying to be a shallow-water bump-and-grind-type crankbait fisherman, you need to use the Series 4S because it deflects off of that cover and has a really good, wide action.
