When Strike King Saved the Day for Mark Rose

Pop'n Grass Frog

Editor's Note: Strike King pro team member, Mark Rose, from Marion, Arkansas, has fished professionally for three years. Rose has fished in B.A.S.S, FLW, Everstart and Ranger Millennium pro-fishing tournaments and has placed in the top five on several occasions. This week Rose will share with us how Strike King saved the day when his fishing situation seemed hopeless.

Question: Tell me about a time when a Strike King lure saved the day.

Rose: Years ago, when I was fishing a lily pad back home, practicing for a club tournament, I was running into some bad luck. I knew it wasn't a location problem because I had caught fish in the lily pads before, only now, things weren't really happening. Suddenly, about midday, the shad started getting active in the pads. I was catching fish on the outsides, with chugging-type top-water baits. I could tell that the bass wanted something with a little bit of a spit to it. However, I noticed that there were little holes in the lily pads with a few weeds, and I knew I couldn't throw my chugging bait in those little holes.

I looked through my box, and I had two or three Strike King Pop'n Grass Frogs in my boat. I said to myself, "They have the chugging-type top-water action along with the frog, so I could get it in the holes to catch one of those big fish." So, I tied it on and it worked. Anytime you get in a situation where you have little holes in any type of vegetation, and you want a spitting type-action, the Pop'n Grass Frog is weedless bait that will work wonders for you.
