When Strike King Saved the Day for Mark Rose

Bitsy Bug

Editor's Note: Strike King pro team member, Mark Rose, from Marion, Arkansas, has fished professionally for three years. Rose has fished in B.A.S.S, FLW, Everstart and Ranger Millennium pro-fishing tournaments and has placed in the top five on several occasions. This week Rose will share with us how Strike King saved the day when his fishing situation seemed hopeless.

Question: Can you give me another instance when Strike King saved the day?

Rose: This past season I was fishing on Lake Seminole, on the Georgia/Florida line, during practice for a tournament. I was catching my fish in a deep-water creek channel on a Pro-Model Strike King jig. However, during the tournament, the weather and the water were cold with the water in the 60s, and I couldn't get those bass to bite the heavy jig.

I went over to some standing timber, which was a little bit shallower on the flat part, where the water was very clear. I could see that the fish had suspended around 5 feet of water, and I still couldn't get my darker jig to work. I began looking in my jig box to find something a little more natural and somewhat more subtle. Sometimes you can have such a one-track mind that you don't see what is right in front of you.

That was the case when I found a Strike King Bitsy Bug. It hadn't dawned on me to use a small low-profile jig. I started throwing the little green-pumpkin-colored Bitsy Bug on 10-pound-test line. That made all the difference in the world. The Strike King Bitsy Bug definitely saved the day.
