When Strike King Saved the Day for Mark Rose

Flip-N-Spin

Editor's Note: Strike King pro team member, Mark Rose, from Marion, Arkansas, has fished professionally for three years. Rose has fished in B.A.S.S, FLW, Everstart and Ranger Millennium pro-fishing tournaments and has placed in the top five on several occasions. This week Rose will share with us how Strike King saved the day when his fishing situation seemed hopeless.

Question: Can you give me a final time when Strike King saved the day?

Rose: I had gotten in these brush tops, fishing in an oxbow on the Mississippi River, 50 miles south of the Memphis Bridge, on Lake Tunica. It was fall, and the river was already down so low that there were just a few of the brush tops left in the water. I was flipping the brush tops with a jig.

The fish were feeding on shad, rather than on bluegill and crawfish. So, the jig bite wasn't really what they were wanting. They wanted flash. They were so thick in the treetops there was no way to flash to them. I started thinking about spinner baits that would be able to get down there.

I began going through my box looking for a bright, flashy- colored jig and came across an old Flip-N-Spin I never thought I would use. I really didn't think there was a technique for this Strike King 3/8-ounce, white Flip-N-Spin, even though I had heard Denny Brauer talk so much about it.

I decided this was the perfect bait because with it I got a weed guard, the jig profile, and it was a white color, which matched the hatch perfect. And to top that all off, it had a No.4-1/2 Colorado blade on the back of it. It was the perfect combination. Anytime it's autumn and the shad and bass are too thick to cover, the Flip-N-Spin is an awesome bait to use. It really helped me. Even though I wasn't fishing in a tournament, the Strike King Flip-N-Spin added a lot more fish to the fun day of fishing.
