Mark Rose
The Mini-King and the Micro-King
Editor's Note: Thirty-one-year-old Mark Rose of Marion, Arkansas, has fished professionally for some 4 years. In the past, he’s worked as a district executive for the Boy Scouts of America's national office. He went pro with Strike King several years ago. Although he's never won a tournament, he proves his consistency by always finishing near the top.
Question: Tell me about the Mini-King and the Micro-King.
Rose: They are the spinner baits that you don't leave home without. I always have about a dozen of these on hand, and they are great. They are awesome limit baits. When you are struggling in a tournament, or just out joyfishing, you want to have a go-to bait. Whenever the bass are not biting, these spinner baits work really well.
They have a 2-inch profile like a shad. Whenever fishing gets tough, tie on one of these little baits in a shad pattern and get up on the flats around cover. If you're fishing behind other anglers, and the fish don't seem to be reacting to the normal size bait, downsize to the Micro-King when you need a limit bait. I use it when I'm fishing flats.
Question: Is there any particular time of year that it's best to utilize the Micro-King or the Mini-King?
Rose: It is a great bait to use all year. It is great in cold water during winter or in warm water during the summer.
