Two Bass Master Classic Winners - Mark Davis & Kevin VanDam
When the 3X Ribbon Tail Worm Saved the Day For Mark Davis
Editor's Note: Mark Davis, of Mount Ida, Arkansas, is ranked third by www.bassfan.com. He won the Angler-of-the-Year title in 1995, 1998 and 2001 and the 1995 BASS Masters Classic.
Davis: I believe the 3X Ribbon Tail Worm is without question the most-versatile, soft-plastic lure available on the market today. I Texas Rig, Carolina Rig and use this worm with a jig head or a lead head. You can use it any other way you can fish any other plastic worm. My favorite method for fishing the 3X Ribbon Tail Worm is to use a 1/8- to 5/16-ounce slip sinker with a No. 3/0 Extra Wide Gap Hook and rig it Texas style.
I was fishing a B.A.S.S. Tournament on Lake Okeechobee in early 2003. Each day I was able to catch a limit of bass on the 3X Ribbon Tail Worm. I would often change lures to try and catch more or bigger bass, but when the other lures failed to produce, I would switch back to the 3X Ribbon Tail Worm and continue to catch fish. The 3X material is such a revolutionary new product. I don't believe we have learned everything we can possibly do with this material or the Ribbon Tail Worm. I believe we are going to learn some new tactics and strategies with this worm that are today yet unknown.
