Fishing With The Bitsy Pond Minnow

Editor's Note: Chad Brauer of Osage Beach, Missouri, son of fishing pro Denny Brauer, has grown up in a fishing family and has fished professionally for more than six years. Brauer has made a name for himself on the professional bass-fishing circuit, finishing in the top-10 in many tournaments, and has competed in the BASS Masters Classic.

Question: Do you have any more favorite lures?

Brauer: This one is something no one will think a Brauer even will think about having, but I like the Strike King Bitsy Pond Minnow for one simple reason. I have two kids at home, an 8-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl. I keep a whole bunch of these Bitsy Pond Minnows in my tackle box to fish Grandpa's pond with them. You simply tie one on an ultralight rod or any rod on which children can learn how to fish easily. You can teach them to cast with the Bitsy Pond Minnow. They can cast it out and reel it in and aren't restricted to merely catching bass. You can go to a pond, a creek or anywhere fish are available and catch some with this lure.

I want kids to catch fish. Regardless of what size the kids are, the first few trips to the water must be successful for them to want to go back. If they have had the unfortunate experience of not catching several fish, then they won't want to go because they've just sat around and have been bored. But, if they get several bites the first trip, they'll look forward to the next time. And then if the next time isn't so good, they still have the memory of the first time. Catching the fish will bring them back again and again. So, definitely take steps to ensure a lot of bites for fishing with novices or children by fishing the Bitsy Pond Minnow or the Micro King spinner. Whatever fish is in the pond, the cove, or any water will bite this type of bait.
