Shaw Grigsby's Five Lures That Got Him To The Classic
Jigging To The Classic
Editor's Note: Shaw Grigsby of Gainesville, Florida, has qualified for his tenth Bassmaster Classic. Grigsby has won 8 B.A.S.S. tournaments since turning pro in 1984. Shaw also has 40 top-10 finishes and has won the gold medal for bass fishing in ESPN’s Great Outdoor Games.
Grigsby: After Lake Seminole, I made a top five at the Toledo Bend Reservoir in Texas, using the Premier Elite Jig. I was using a 3/4-ounce in black/brown/amber flash color. This color was as close as I could find to the Texas crawfish color. I was throwing the jig on a Quantum Tour Edition PT rod and reel using 20- and 25-pound Stren, and casting it to the grass then working down the drop off the grass.
Once the jig hit the water, I’d let it sink to the bottom. Then I’d lift the rod and let it sink to the bottom a couple of times. Usually the fish would hammer it on the drop. I reeled down, made sure the slack was out of my line and then set the hook. I was in second after the preliminary days, and then I ended up at the top five of the field, primarily using the Premier Elite Jig.
