Spinner Bait For A Big Stringer

Grigsby: The fifth tournament on the Pro Tour was on Lake Eufaula in Eufaula, Alabama, where I missed the cut. But, on the second day, I caught the biggest stringer for that day of the tournament - 22 pounds. I caught all the bass the second day on a 3/8-ounce Pro-Model spinner bait, white and chartreuse with double Colorado blades. I was using 20-pound test on a Galyan's 6'6" rod. I fished in shallow pockets throwing it, using a nice slow steady retrieve through cover. I was using a trailer hook with no trailer. I caught some monster-sized bass fish that gave me a lot of confidence in that bait.
The fish were hitting the bait hard, and by the end of the day, I’d caught a number of fish. But I lost one giant bass that was 7 pounds. That fish would have put me in the top 3, but there was so much junk to reel the fish through, that the spinner bait came off. I used the 3/8-ounce size because it wouldn't sink into all the structure that was around, and the double Colorado blades caused a lot of flash and vibration. But, once you hooked a fish you had to get it out.
