Editor's Note: Shaw Grigsby of Gainesville, Florida, has qualified for his tenth Bassmaster Classic. Grigsby has won 8 B.A.S.S. tournaments since turning pro in 1984. Shaw also has 40 top-10 finishes and has won the gold medal for bass fishing in ESPN’s Great Outdoor Games.

Grigsby: The next tournament was on the Santee Cooper lakes in South Carolina, and again I used the spinner bait. But, I also started pitching a Denny Brauer Flipping Tube in the black neon and that worked very well. I was pitching the lure into holes and flipped it around cypress trees, grass and lily pads. I would pitch the flipping tube into the holes, let it hit the bottom, kind of shake it around, let it sit for a while and hang on when the fish hits.

The combination I used was 25-pound Stren and a 1/4-ounce weight a No. 4/0 hook and a flipping stick from Quantum and E600 PT reel. It was like bed fishing without knowing where the beds were. So, instead of hitting around the bed quickly and picking it up, you could leave it in the spot a little bit longer. The flipping tube was a bulkier bait, and it went through the vegetation very easily.
