Mike Wurm - Lures That Got Me To The Classic
Titanium Elite Buzzbait
Editor's Note: Mike Wurm, a 51-year-old angler from Hot Springs, Arkansas, first fished competitively in 1978 and began on the Bassmasters Circuit in 1992. He has one win and 11 top-10 finishes in his career. This year he qualified for his seventh Bassmasters Classic.
Wurm: I really like the Titanium Elite Buzzbait because it throws well and has a nice sound to it right out of the box. With a lot of buzzbaits, you have to tie to your truck and drive 35- or 40-mph to get ready to use and make it squeak the right way. You can't reel it in slowly, but a steady retrieve produces a good sound. The Titanium Elite Buzzbait is a heavy-duty lure and works well under pressure.
In the California Delta area I threw the Titanium Elite Buzzbait as my first bait in the morning each day of the tournament. I always caught one or two decent fish, and then I would start pitching and flipping. But that buzzbait really got me going. When you’re fishing a tournament, you want to get off to as good start as early as possible. If you go for a long time without catching any fish, it’s hard to keep your focus. Getting a fish in the boat early often helps your concentration throughout the tournament.
