Mike Wurm - Lures That Got Me To The Classic
Fire Tiger-Colored Series 3 Pro-Model Crankbait
Editor's Note: Mike Wurm, a 51-year-old angler from Hot Springs, Arkansas, first fished competitively in 1978 and began on the Bassmasters Circuit in 1992. He has one win and 11 top-10 finishes in his career. This year he qualified for his seventh Bassmasters Classic.
Wurm: The other favorite bait I have from Strike King that has really helped me is the Fire-Tiger-Colored Series 3 Pro-Model crankbait. If you tie that bait on, you can catch bass in any body of water. If the water is stained, muddy or clear, this bait is perfect in any situation. This bait runs 6- to 8-feet deep and can mimic baitfish or crawfish. It works well, has the correct color pattern on it and runs the correct depth.
The Series 3 crankbait helped me late in the spawn. People caught fish on top-water baits, but I took the Series 3 down around stumps, and the fish nailed it. I cast the crankbait behind a Carolina rig, and the Series 3 helped me catch fish and keep my point standings high. Even though I didn't end up with a check, I stayed in the running for making it to the Classic. Some tournaments you struggle and you know you’re going to struggle, but this bait can help you keep your place in the standings.
