Mark Davis - Five Lures That Got Me To The Classic
Strike King Diamond Shads
Editor's Note: Mark Davis, of Mount Ida, Arkansas, is ranked third by www.bassfan.com. He won the Angler-of-the-Year title in 1995, 1998 and 2001 and the 1995 Bassmasters Classic.
Question: What's the third lure that helped you get to the Classic?
Davis: Number three would be a 1/4-ounce Strike King Diamond Shad with a chrome-and-green back. In spring tournaments, I generally rely on the 1/4-ounce lure when I want to imitate smaller forage or fish in shallower water. I also like a 1/2-ounce lure because, to me, it has the best fish-catching ability of all and often works well in shallow water, too. I catch a lot of bass just winding this lure as fast as I can across the water. A lot of people are scared to reel a bait too fast, because they think the bass can't catch up to it. In cold water, you'll trigger the bass to bite lipless baits by reeling really fast.
