Mark Davis - Five Lures That Got Me To The Classic
Premiere Elite Spinner Bait
Editor's Note: Mark Davis, of Mount Ida, Arkansas, is ranked third by www.bassfan.com. He won the Angler-of-the-Year title in 1995, 1998 and 2001 and the 1995 Bassmasters Classic.
Question: What's the fourth bait that allowed you to get to the Classic?
Davis: The 3/8-ounce Premiere Elite spinner bait with two willow-leaf blades, a chartreuse-white skirt, one gold and silver blades worked great This spinner bait was a good lure choice for a lot of the waters I fished this year. It's a standard spinner bait, but this one comes through cover extremely well.
I fish a spinner bait slowly, allowing it to roll and bump against structure. For this to be successful, I need a bait that won't hang up. The Premiere Elite worked well for me at Lake Seminole, near Bainbridge, Georgia. I was slow-rolling that lure in standing timber, and the fish were holding tight to the structure. To get the fish to bite, you had to run the lure into the bottom of the stumps.
