Shaw Grigsby's Tournament Equipment Must-Haves
Other Items To Always Bring While Fishing A Tournament
Editor's Note: Shaw Grigsby of Gainesville, Florida, has qualified for his tenth Bassmasters Classic. Grigsby has won 8 B.A.S.S. tournaments since turning pro in 1984. Shaw also has 40 top-10 finishes and has won the gold medal for bass fishing in ESPN's Great Outdoor Games.
Grigsby: When I leave home to go fish a tournament I'm always going to have a Galyan's Gore-Tex rainsuit with me. You can stand in the rain or run 60-mph, and this suit will keep you dry. So, I always bring it to any tournament. I'll always have my Strike King Shaw Grigsby sunglasses. I usually bring two pairs of sunglasses that have different lens colors with me, just in case. I'll bring a Cul-M-Rite scale for making sure I can weigh the bass. This digital scale records all five fish that I have and tells me which fish weighs the most. The quick-cull clips are tremendous because they don't hurt the fish, and you can find the fish quickly.
I bring a set of pliers and toenail clippers to cut line. I carry a Gerber Fishermen Multi-Plier 600. I bring my Spike-It dyes for plastics and 3X lures. It takes a different type of dye for 3X than it does regular plastics. I will have lead strips to put on my hooks to weigh down the baits to sink or suspend. Spare fishing line and hooks are a must in any tournament. A map of the lake, a towel and sunscreen are always essential anytime you're on the water.
