Shaw Grigsby's Tournament Equipment Must-Haves
Electronics I Depend On While Fishing A Tournament
Editor's Note: Shaw Grigsby of Gainesville, Florida, has qualified for his tenth Bassmasters Classic. Grigsby has won 8 B.A.S.S. tournaments since turning pro in 1984. Shaw also has 40 top-10 finishes and has won the gold medal for bass fishing in ESPN's Great Outdoor Games.
Grigsby: I rely solely on Lowrance electronics in all my fishing. The best thing about Lowrance products is that all your pertinent information you have can be downloaded onto a chip the size of a postage stamp. When I show up at a tournament, I can plug this into the Lowrance unit on my boat and go fishing. If I don't have my Lowrance 19CI color that is sonar and GPS, I know that any other Lowrance unit will accept my chip.
If I don't have my Lowrance unit, I carry my handheld GPS to make sure I can record everything I find from practice. With the Lowrance unit, you don't have to double-record your findings. The chip makes keeping up with fishing info and hot spots really easy.
I carry three depth finders on my boat: a X97 on the front, LCX-19 on the console and a 1240A Dual-Range In-Dash Flasher. I never turn the 1240 on. It's there only in case something breaks down and I need a flasher really quick.
