Mark Davis - How To Get Ready For A Tournament
Using Local Information
Editor's Note: Mark Davis, of Mount Ida, Arkansas, is ranked third by www.bassfan.com. He won the Angler-of-the-Year title in 1995, 1998 and 2001 and the 1995 BASS Masters Classic.
Question: Do you rely on local information about bass fishing?
Davis: If I rely on local information, I’ll become a weaker fisherman for the tournament. If I rely on what other local anglers tell me, I won't be as mentally sharp as I will be if I do it on my own. I find I’m more successful if I avoid taking local help. But, I think finding out the general information about the lake is very important.
Every lake has its own personality. The quicker you learn the personality of the water, the quicker you’ll catch fish there on a day-to-day basis. I think the biggest pitfall of a tournament fisherman, is listening to local help.
