Mark Davis - Do Or Die

Always a Fisherman

Editor's Note: Thirty-nine-year-old Mark Davis, who has fished in 12 Bassmasters Classics, won the title of Angler of the Year three times and won the Bassmasters Classic in 1995. Davis has had 34 top 10 finishes and ranked third on the BASS circuit in 2003. Thirteenth in all-time career winnings on the BASS circuit, having won more than $800,000 fishing, Davis is a quiet, gentle man who competes fiercely once a tournament starts.

Question: Mark, if you get out of the tournament fishing business, what will you do?

Davis: That's a question I ask myself just about every day, and I really don't know the answer to it. Because I've been on the road so much and away from my family so much, I'll probably choose to be a homebody and own some kind of a business. But I don't ever see myself completely out of fishing. I love the sport too much, and I love going fishing too much to ever get out of it. If fishing isn't always my primary business, it will always be a secondary business for me.

Question: When your fishing days are over, how do you want to be remembered?

Davis: I'd want folks to remember that I was a Christian. I'd want them to know I was a fellow who loved his family and loved his occupation as a fisherman.
