Meet Mr. Mike Wurm

What Mike Wurm Likes Most About Professional Fishing

Editor's Note: Have you ever wondered who these men are who run up and down highways across the nation catching little green fish for money? What are their lives like? Why do they do participate in professional bass fishing? What do their families think about them being away from home so much? We want you to meet and get to know the Strike King Pros, both as some of the best bass fishermen in the nation and also to learn what they're really like. This week you'll get to know Mike Wurm up close and personal.

Wurm: I've always been an outdoor person, and I enjoy tournament fishing because I get to live my life outdoors. Plus, I meet some of the greatest people in the world as a tournament fisherman. I like to be around fishermen and people who love the outdoors. We have an instant connection with our love for fishing and the outdoors. I meet so many people in tournaments, seminars, competitions and traveling. I know I can go to any state in the union and call a friend. My circle of friends has grown tremendously as a result of my fishing. If I'm on the road and have a problem, regardless of where I am, I've got a friend who will come help me. Knowing I have people I can depend on all over the country makes my life richer.

Although I love to fish, I also like to have speaking engagements, do seminars and emcee tournaments. What I really enjoy about these events are all the people I get to meet. Being a professional bass fisherman is a people business. If you enjoy people, getting to know them, talking with them, helping them and becoming friends with them, there's not a better profession in the world. Of course, I really, really love to fish. So tournament fishing allows me to earn a living for my family and doing the two things I like most in life - working with people and fishing.
