Meet Mr. Mike Wurm

What Wurm Wants People To Know About Him

Editor's Note: Have you ever wondered who these men are who run up and down highways across the nation catching little green fish for money? What are their lives like? Why do they do participate in professional bass fishing? What do their families think about them being away from home so much? We want you to meet and get to know the Strike King Pros, both as some of the best bass fishermen in the nation and also to learn what they're really like. This week you'll get to know Mike Wurm up close and personal.

Wurm: I'm a work in progress. I want people to know that every day I'm on the water I'm trying to become a better bass fisherman than I've been the day before. I'm trying to learn all I can about the sport, the lures and the bass. I also want people to know that I'm a nice guy. I'm someone they can talk to and someone who will enjoy talking with them. I want them to know that I'm at the tournament for them and to help them, or that I'm at a speaking engagement to share what I've learned about bass fishing with them. I want them to know I want to be their friend and that I want them to be my friends.

I'm also trying to get away from relying so heavily on my favorite lures and my favorite ways of fishing. I want to expand the number of lures that I can catch bass on and increase the number of techniques that I know to catch bass. For me, bass fishing is a continuing-education course that I've signed on for life. I'll encourage any young person who wants to try to be a professional fisherman today. The sport of bass fishing is zooming right now. We are in the golden days of bass fishing, in my opinion. There are so many opportunities for a young person in the fishing industry. The boating industry also is booming. There are many other ways a young person can earn a living in the fishing industry today that weren't around 10- or 15-years ago. If a young person really learns this sport and the outdoor industry, he or she can find a way to earn a very lucrative living in bass fishing for the rest of his life.
