Shaw Grigsby on 3X Salt Impregnated Soft Plastic Lures

How to Fish the Denny Brauer Chunk

Editor's Note: New this year from Strike King is the 3X Salt Impregnated soft plastic lures. This week, well-known professional bass fisherman Shaw Grigsby of Gainesville, Florida, will tell us how, where and why to fish them.

Grigsby: The Denny Brauer Chunk is a jig trailer. It's a big split-tail trailer that looks like it has crawfish pincers. These pincers are attached to a big chunk of 3X material. But not only does this Denny Brauer Chunk give your jig a bigger profile in the water, but because the chunk is made of 3X material, you can fish it much longer. Too, the Denny Brauer Chunk will stay on the hook much longer than any other type of trailer.

Now that this chunk has been heavily impregnated with salt, even if a bass hits the trailer instead of the jig, the bass will inhale the bait. This trailer is very productive in the wintertime when the bass are finicky and will often short strike and not hold on to the jig like they will at warmer times of the year. Also because this 3X material doesn't dry up like pork does, you're not constantly having to change the trailer on your jig. If you hook the Denny Brauer Chunk on your jig, you can fish it in the coldest winter months or the hottest summer months. You don't have to change trailers because of the time of the year or the bass seasonal patterns.
