All About Emily Shaffer

Shaffer Talks About Her Fishing Future

Editor's Note: In 2004, Strike King pro Emily Shaffer finished 5th in the Women's Bass Fishing Association (WBFA) and fished the FLW tour, one of the two largest national professional bass-fishing tournaments, for the first time. Emily, one of two ladies fishing FLW, laughed and said, "I caught bass in every FLW tournament. The only problem I had is everyone else caught more bass that I did." Emily is one of only two ladies fishing the FLW tournament, which is one of the two largest national professional bass tournaments.

SK: Emily, what's in the future for your tournament fishing?

Shaffer I plan to continue fishing the WBFA circuit, and I want to fish all the FLW tournaments I can that don't conflict with the women's tournaments.

SK: Are your going to fish any BASS tournaments?

Shaffer: I really can't say because at this time I really don't know. I'm going to continue to cooperate with my sponsors and fish the circuits they ask me to fish as long as my schedule will permit it. I know many ladies like to tournament fish just like I do, and if we all get together, we can really have a lot of influence on the fishing industry. I'm teaching more and more ladies how to fish, and I'm seeing more ladies who are buying their own boats and their own fishing tackle. I think that in the future you may be surprised at just how many women become more and more involved in fishing. I know that I have really been fortunate to have sponsors like Strike King who not only sponsor me but encourage me and support me out on the professional fishing circuit. So, what's in the future for Emily Shaffer? I really don't know right now, but I do know there will be plenty more bass fishing, many more tournaments and many more seminars. I just feel really fortunate that I can earn a living in the sport that I truly love.
