Kevin VanDam on Strike King’s New Products

Fired-Up About the Bleeding Premiere Elite Spinner Bait

Kevin VanDamEditor's Note: This fall Strike King has introduced a boat load of new products. However, the Strike King Pros have had the opportunity to fish these new products during this past summer before their introductions. This week Kevin VanDam will tell us what exciting new Strike King products he's fished and what he likes about them.

VanDam: Last year Strike King came out with a Bleeding Bait spinner bait, which had red hooks and some red strands in the skirt. But this new Bleeding Bait spinner bait also features a red wire that holds the blades and has a new red-plastic blade that goes right on the swivel of the rear blade. As you pull the spinner bait through the water, that little red-plastic blade gives off a red glow that almost looks like blood flowing out of the lure. I believe that the red glow increases the cues that a bass needs to determine whether or not it's going to hit a lure.

I received my very-first prototype early during the spring of 2004, and I've been fishing it from the early spring through the summer and now into the fall of 2004. When I'm in a spinner bait situation and the water is extremely clear or slightly stained, I'll be fishing that new Bleeding Bait spinner bait. My favorite two colors are the bleeding white and the bleeding chartreuse and white. In the North, where I live in Michigan, I really like the fire-tiger color because it's the same color as the perch in these lakes. I like to fish the bleeding chartreuse color spinner bait when I'm fishing for smallmouth. If the water is muddy, I don't believe the bass can see the red color as well as they can in clear water. But, in clear to slightly-stained water, I'm totally convinced that the red color makes the difference.
