Kevin VanDam on Strike King’s New Products

Why I'm Hot on Chunks

Kevin VanDamEditor's Note: This fall Strike King has introduced a boat load of new products. However, the Strike King Pros have had the opportunity to fish these new products during this past summer before their introductions. This week Kevin VanDam will tell us what exciting new Strike King products he's fished and what he likes about them.

VanDam: I really believe that the Denny Brauer Chunk is by far the best jig trailer that has ever been made. One of the main reasons that this jig trailer is better than other jig trailers on the market is because it has all the unique properties of the 3X materials. These jig trailers are extremely durable, and you can catch 30, 40 or even 50 bass on one of these trailers before you have to change it. They don't pull down or tear off like many other jig trailers do, and you don't have to worry about whether your trailer is in the proper position or not, once you put the chunk on the back of your bait.

I like to glue my chunk underneath the rattle on both the Denny Brauer jig and the Premier Elite jig. I put a drop of fishing glue on the chunk to hold it in place, and then I'm good to fish the rest of the day without having to worry about my jig. I can skip that jig underneath a dock, drag it through a treetop or fish it any way I want to fish it and not have to worry about whether or not the trailer has slid down, slid up or turned upside down on the hook. Once I rig a trailer like this, I know that it's there to stay. Regardless of how many bass I catch on that lure, my jig trailer is going to stay where I've put it when I'm fishing. Not having to fool with my trailer while I'm fishing gives me added fishing time and allows me to make more casts and catch more bass. So, any time I can add a fishing aid to my lure that's going to allow me to fish more, catch more and have to spend less time with my equipment, I'll use that type of trailer.

Kevin VanDamBut just because the lure is durable is not the only reason I'm fishing it. This trailer is also softer than most other trailers on the market, which gives it three times the action as what you'll find in other trailers. This trailer is exceptionally well-designed, and I really believe that Denny Brauer spent a lot of time and effort and did a lot of research to come up with this new and better trailer. Again, that's what I appreciate about being a part of the Strike King team. I respect the other fishermen on Strike King's team and their ability to develop and design new products that I can fish just like the general public. In other words, the same lures that you're fishing with, I'm fishing with, and I appreciate the time and energy that the other Strike King Pros are putting into developing the baits I'm using.

My favorite color is without a doubt, electric blue. I like this color trailer on the back of a brown jig or a black-and-blue jig, especially in the fall, because I believe these colors give off a really good flash and imitate the baitfish on which the bass are feeding. Too, Strike King has a number of good colors to choose from, but electric blue just happens to be my favorite.
