Mike Wurm on How to Catch Fish Now in the Fall
Buzz Them Up
Editor’s Note: Mike Wurm, a Strike King Pro since the mid-1990s says, “I can’t remember when I wasn’t a Strike King Pro.” Wurm fishes the national professional bass circuits and conducts seminars at trade shows and sporting events throughout the year.
In the fall of the year, the buzzbait can really be effective. You can just fish it down the bank around any kind of cover. Often you’ll catch the most bass in the backs of creeks. I like to fish the flat side of the creek. In the late afternoon, the bass will often herd the shads to the backsides of the flats, which creates an excellent opportunity for a fisherman to use a buzzbait.
My favorite color to use is the alpha-shad color with the Mylar in it. Sometimes I prefer chartreuse and white, depending on the color of the water. Now in the early fall, I’ll be using large buzzbaits, but later in the fall I’ll start using the three-bladed, 1/8-ounce buzzbait. This little buzzbait pops up to the surface, stays on the top really well and has a really unique chirp, chirp, chirp sound. It’ll often get bites when other bigger buzz baits won’t.
