Mike Wurm on How to Catch Fish Now in the Fall
When All Else Fails, Finesse Them
Editor’s Note: Mike Wurm, a Strike King Pro since the mid-1990s says, “I can’t remember when I wasn’t a Strike King Pro.” Wurm fishes the national professional bass circuits and conducts seminars at trade shows and sporting events throughout the year.
At this time of the year, when everything else fails, I use a Strike King Finesse Worm on a Carolina Rig. I like the 4X 3-inch Finesse worm in the green-pumpkin color. This worm in this color will catch bass on any lake I go to. You may find a particular color on a particular lake that may work better, but I know green pumpkin will always work.
I like to fish the Carolina rig on a 2-1/2- to 3-foot fluorocarbon leader. I’m also going to fish the finesse worm on a lead head shaky style. I like the true tungsten lead head because it’s really small. I’ll fish the shaky head finesse worm on an 8-pound-test fluorocarbon line. You can fish this rig around chunk rock banks, boat docks or even clean banks. I’ll fish the Carolina rigs on points, drop-offs, creek channels and down the bank. But when I come to a boat dock, the shaky head worm usually works best when the water is somewhat clearer so the bass can see it.
