Fishing with Mark Davis and Strike King’s New Lures

Part 3: No More Trailers

Fishing with Mark Davis and Strike King’s New LuresEditor’s Note: Mark Davis, of Mount Ida, Arkansas, ranked third by www.bassfan.com, has won Bassmaster Angler-of-the-Year titles in 1995, 1998 and 2001 and the 1995 Bassmasters Classic.

Question: What do you think about Strike King’s new spinner bait skirt?

Davis: The new Strike King spinner bait’s Premier Plus Perfect Skirt has eliminated the need for a trailer on a spinner bait. Each spinner bait comes rigged with a trailer hook. The premium plus part of it is that you don’t have to buy a trailer hook to put on your spinner bait, and you don’t have to buy a trailer. This new spinner bait comes with the trailer hook in place and the skirt’s covering the trailer hook.

Fishing with Mark Davis and Strike King’s New LuresThese lures are customized from the factory to be ready to go fishing when you’re ready. You can tear open the package, tie the bait on and start catching fish. The tail on the new skirt comes out of the center of the lure and the fluffed-out portion of the skirt gives this spinner bait a completely new and different action. You’re won’t believe the action of this skirt.

But the skirt's design isn’t the only thing that I really like about these new spinner baits. In the past, when you bought a blue-and-chartreuse-colored skirt for your spinner bait, the blue strands and the chartreuse strands were all mixed together. However the spinner bait is meant to imitate a baitfish, you want the blue of the skirt to swim on top and above the chartreuse. But in the past, you haven’t been able to get a skirt designed like this. However, these new skirts that Strike King has on this new spinner bait allow you to have blue strands on top and chartreuse strands on the bottom of the skirt.

Fishing with Mark Davis and Strike King’s New LuresNow think about the fire-tiger spinner bait skirt with its dark-green, almost black-colored skirt on the top that fades to a medium green on the side of the skirt, then eventually into chartreuse and next orange on the belly of the skirt. These colors are layered on top of each other rather than being jumbled together. These new skirts are colored almost like you expect the colors on a crankbait to be, laying on top of each other. Strike King is the only company that produces skirts where the colors in the skirt lay on top of each other instead of being all mixed together. This buzzbait will catch bass.
