Fishing with Mark Davis and Strike King’s New Lures

Part 4: The Mini 3

Fishing with Mark Davis and Strike King’s New LuresEditor’s Note: Mark Davis, of Mount Ida, Arkansas, ranked third by www.bassfan.com, has won Bassmaster Angler-of-the-Year titles in 1995, 1998 and 2001 and the 1995 Bassmasters Classic.

Question: What do you think about the Mini 3 that’s not much bigger than the size of a dime?

Davis: Many times when fishing conditions are tough, you have to downsize your baits if you’re going to get a bite. Fishing is all about getting the bite. If you don’t get the bite, you can’t set the hook. If you can’t set the hook, you can’t catch the bass. Most professional fishermen try to fish bigger lures to hopefully catch bigger fish. However, when the fish aren’t biting, to get a bite, you have to fish smaller baits.

Fishing with Mark Davis and Strike King’s New LuresStrike King’s new little crankbait, the Mini 3, runs about 3-feet deep and has a small profile but also has a terrific action. This crankbait has a tight little wiggling action that’s so natural it’s almost unbelievable that it’s a crankbait and not a live fish. On those tough fishing days when you can’t get a bite, this lure will be your go-to lure. Everyone likes to fish the big baits, including me. But, if the big baits and the medium-sized baits aren’t getting you bites, and you can’t catch fish on soft-plastic lures, you’ll have to fish this little crankbait to catch a bass.
