Shaw Grigsby
Part 4: The Twin Spin Ain’t New, But…
Editor’s Note: When you make $1 million traveling all over the country catching little green fish, you must have learned plenty about bass fishing. Shaw Grigsby of Gainesville, Florida, the host of “One More Cast with Shaw Grigsby” TV show, has learned more than just a little bit about bass fishing. One of the nation’s leading pro-fishermen who’s made nine Bassmaster Classic appearances, has had 47, top-10 finishes on the BASS circuit and has won eight tournaments, Grigsby’s proven he’s one of the best bass fishermen in the nation. Strike King has its pros fish with the company’s new products to provide feedback for the company on how to make its products better and to learn more about how to fish them. This week Grigsby will tell you how to fish the new products that Strike King has introduced and how they can improve your fishing.
Grigsby: Twin propeller spinner baits have been around for a while, but they haven’t been very popular because generally they don’t track true. They either run off to the right or to the left. But the Strike King Deuce runs as straight as an arrow. So, instead of having to cast to the right or to the left of a stump, a log or any other object, you can fish a twin propeller spinner bait like the Deuce by casting straight to or straight past the object, and the lure will run straight. Because of the way that twin blades are set up, the lure doesn’t tilt to the right or to the left like other double-propelled spinner baits have done in the past.
Because the lure has two blades, you can slow down the retrieve and work the buzzbait really slow. So, now you can appeal to the bass with a fast loud retrieve or a very-slow retrieve that keeps the buzzbait in the bass’s strike zone longer. Another advantage about Strike King’s Deuce buzzbait is that it comes in three sizes. Most other buzzbaits only come in one size. There’s a 1/4-, 3/8-, and 1/2-ounce Deuce, so if you think you need a smaller buzzbait that makes less noise to entice the bass to bite, you now have the option of fishing a smaller buzzbait and still getting many of the properties of the bigger buzzbaits.
The other advantage to fishing the Deuce is that the two blades keep the bait tracking true in the water. Therefore, it’ll come through cover much better than the single- blade buzzbaits will. I’m really excited about this new buzzbait because I believe it opens up many more fishing opportunities than we’ve had in the past.
