Part 4: The Second Day of the Tournament

Question: Shaw, what did you do on the second day of the tournament?

Grigsby: As soon as I left the launch site, I ran straight to the spot where I’d caught the 6 pounder the day before and only caught three bass that weighed a total of about 3 pounds. I ran down to the lower end of the grass line and fished. I pulled up on one point and decided to fish with the 1/2-ounce Premier Plus spinner bait in chartreuse and white. I already had a limit of bass in my live well that I’d caught with the 3/4-ounce Red Eye Shad. Every day of the tournament, I’d catch a limit of bass on my 3/4-ounce Red Eye Shad early in the morning and then try to better my string. I’d already covered this spot, making multiple casts with the 3/4-ounce Red Eye Shad. I’d thrown the Ocho and gotten a bite, so I decided to return to using the 3/4-ounce spinner bait.

On the first cast with my Premier Plus spinner bait, I caught a 4-pound, 14-ounce bass. I put the bass in the boat and worked down the bank. Then I caught a 3-1/2-pounder on the spinner bait. So now, I had two big ones in the box as well as a limit of little ones. I turned the boat around, headed to the same point where I’d caught the 5 to 6 pounder and cast to that point with the Ocho. I caught a bass that weighed 5 pounds and 5 ounces. So, now I had two, 5 pounders, a 4-pounder, plus two little fish for my bag. At the weigh-in I had about 18 pounds and some ounces, moving me into third place.
