Being Behind and In Front of the Camera with Strike King’s Kelly Gotch
Editor’s Note: Kelly Gotch, one of the newest members of the Strike King family and co-host of the “Step Outside” TV show on the Outdoor Channel produced in partnership with the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), will host “The Guide Series with Kelly Gotch,” produced by SchaZam Productions, premiering on the Pursuit Channel in July 2009. For the past 3-1/2-years, Gotch has hosted and produced “Michigan Out-of-Doors,” one of the first outdoor TV shows in the nation that actually began in the 1950s.
Part 5: The Future for Kelly Gotch
Question: What’s in the future for Kelly Gotch?
Gotch: I’ll continue hunting, fishing and creating TV shows. I enjoy being behind the camera as well as in front of the camera. Every generation is different, and I enjoy creating a positive message for young people growing up today. I’m very nostalgic. I like to hold onto the traditional values in the outdoors developed in the days when hunting and fishing for food was necessary for survival.
I field dress and eat everything I harvest, whether it’s fish or game. Almost everything in the wild tastes good. There’s no reason not to eat it. I want to pass on our outdoor heritage to future generations, so they’ll see how important hunting and fishing are in our lives and in the lives of our families.
Since September, I’ve been traveling a lot filming shows as host of “The Guide Series with Kelly Gotch” and editing video. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University in television production. I own my own production company, Gotcha Productions, and also run camera for SchaZam Productions when they need me. I spend any free time I have taking more hunting and fishing trips with friends. I’m also a screenwriter, a poet, a musician and an artist, although most of my time in the past 8 years has been spent on the road hunting, fishing and videoing. I’ve also been a member of Realtree’s Pro Staff for several years.
