Shaw Grigsby Fishes Salt Water with Strike King Lures

Shaw GrigsbyEditor’s Note: Strike King has secured a strong presence in the freshwater fishing market, but most anglers don’t know that Strike King also produces some of the best saltwater lures on the market today. Because Shaw Grigsby lives in Florida, he has been using many of the Strike King saltwater products to catch a wide variety of saltwater fish. This week, Grigsby will tell us what saltwater lures he’s been fishing, and what fish he’s catching when he fishes in salt water.

Part 2: Bet on the Glass Minnow.

Shaw GrigsbyQuestion: Shaw, why do you like the Glass Minnow?

Grigsby: The Glass Minnow, like the Zulu, is made of Cyber Flexxx, which is extremely durable, strong and soft. Almost every fish that swims in salt water has teeth. When I’m fishing salt water, I need a bait that teeth won’t tear-up, which is why I like the baits made with the Cyber Flexxx material. Strike King’s saltwater lures are successful because not only are they extremely durable, but they also have great action and colors. I’ve caught barracuda, king mackerel, Spanish mackerel and all types of toothy saltwater fish on the Glass Minnow, and none of these fish has been able to destroy this bait.

The only fish I’ve ever seen that can bite a hole in the Glass Minnow is the puffer fish. When a puffer fish bites the tail of the Glass Minnow, it can eat that tail off the lure. The boot tail of the Glass Minnow attracts saltwater fish and gives that Glass Minnow a lot of swimming-type action. You can reel this bait, twitch it or fish it as a fall bait. No matter how you fish the Glass Minnow, that boot tail will make the bait swim, unlike the Zulu, which is a straight type of bait that you have to jerk or twitch to create this swimming action.

Fishing with Shaw GrigsbyThe Glass Minnow is probably my best speckled-trout bait, but I won’t just catch speckled trout on it. I’ll also catch flounder, redfish, snook and a number of other fish. When I first received the Glass Minnow to test, I went to the Everglades to fish for snook and filmed the trip for my TV show. Although I only had three Glass Minnows, I caught 60 - 70 snook with only two of those three lures and never tore-up one. At the end of the trip, I still had a brand-new one left in the package. I fished for 2 days and loaded-up on snook without ever changing Glass Minnows. I also occasionally caught trout, redfish and small tarpon. The Glass Minnow is one of the best saltwater lures ever created.
