KVD Busts em’ in Buffalo

Submitted by Full Limit Outdoor Media

In other news, KVD has done it yet again. Not only is this his 23rd career win, it is his 3rd of the 2016 season. Prior to winning this past week at the Niagara River, Kevin won in dominating fashion on the famed Toledo Bend, and the smallmouth factory known as Cayuga Lake also in New York.

The most recent victory in Buffalo, NY on the Niagara River was during the “2016 Classic Bracket” event which featured a unique one-time format on a small portion of the Niagara River. The event was primarily a smallmouth in current tournament and those are two variables that VanDam has proven to have a steady grasp on.

KVD targeted current breaks and eddies that were found in areas such as sea walls, grass beds and several other shallow types of cover, both man-made and natural.

The winning combination of baits was a mix of his namesake KVD jerkbait, in both the shallow and deep version as well as the all-new Dropshot Half Shell, which also played a role in his Cayuga victory.

His color selections varied dependent on water color. The hardbait colors that were the most productive were Crystal Shad, Pro Blue, Clearwater Minnow, and Chrome Blue.

The Dropshot Half Shell did the most damage in the colors Edge, KVD Kick and KVD Magic.

Although a bit of drama came into play at the conclusion of the event, BASS made a ruling (which is explained in great detail here: www.bassmaster.com/news/kvd-victory-stands ) that cemented the “W” and another trophy for Kevin’s presumably large mantle. He has once again proven that he is one, of not the best, tournament anglers of all times.

What’s New from You Know Who! - Part Two

Submitted by Full Limit Outdoor Media

Last week we brought you the detail on Strike King’s newest soft plastic offerings from the recent ICAST show. If the interaction that we’ve had from anglers, media, and retailers are a good indicator, we nailed it with the new stuff.

This week let’s look at some other new products for 2017.

KVD Popping Perch - There are times as a lure manufacturer when we realize a certain bait is special. The finished product is a thing of perfection that is not easily attained. The culmination of design, testing, and production translates into a bait that exceeds your initial expectations. This is the exception more so than the norm. However, this is the case with all-new Popping Perch from Strike King. Spawned as an idea to create an alternative to frog fishing, the Popping Perch is an incredible new hollow-body topwater that is sure to find a place in tackle boxes and tournament headlines in the very near future.

“The Popping Perch was the brainchild of Todd Castledine. Todd is not only one of the best fishermen I’ve ever known, he is also among the most innovative,” says Phil Marks, head of Strike King’s lure design team. “Todd brought us this idea for a hollow-body topwater bait that was unlike anything on the market. This is a bait that you can power fish with. It walks incredibly easy and wide, but that is not even its best action. The Popping Perch features a unique profile, appealing color schemes, an incredible 4/0 hook, and it is sealed better than any other hollow body bait. It will revolutionize that market,” Marks concludes.

The Popping Perch is perfectly sized to match most forage species and comes in 10 blow up-inducing colors.

Internal Swimbait Head - Ask almost any professional angler what they use across the country. Swimbaits will be near the top of almost every list. The versatility and realness of a swimbait is what makes it special. Strike King is proud to announce their new internal swimbait head, an alternative to traditional rigging methods.

“A lot of folks rig their swimbaits traditionally, with the head of the lure pushed against the jighead. Most of us have caught a ton of bass like that,” says FLW 6-Time winner Mark Rose. “However, I have become partial to rigging my swimbait internally. This not only reduces the “unnecessary” profile of the external head, it cleans up the aesthetics and gets the hook a little farther back in the bait. These things lead to more bites on my Shadalicious swimbait. Also, it’s easy to rig and the premium hook keeps them pinned when they bite.”

The Internal Swimbait Head comes in both 1 oz. and ¾ oz., and is coming soon to a better fishing tackle retailer near you!

Tour Grade Spinhead - The key to a good spinning jig head is attractiveness. It needs to catch a fish’s eye, while still looking realistic in presentation. Strike King has you covered with our new Tour Grade Spin Head.

“The Tour Grade Spin Head allows me to get maximum flash with minimal speed. That matters, especially when you’re fishing cold, clear water for pressured fish,” says Strike King Pro Mark Menendez who has won over 1 million dollars in BASS events. “Strike King built a better mousetrap with the Tour Grade Spinhead. The head design, color options, blade size and hook all combine to make it the finest underspin bait on the market!”

The Tour Grade Spin Head is available in three different sizes (3/8, ½, 3/4 oz.) and three colors.

¾ Oz. Tungsten 2 Tap Red Eyed Shad - Few lures have proven to be more effective at flat-out catching bass than Strike King’s Red Eyed Shad. Our Tungsten 2 Tap model, introduced last year, took that to the next level with its innovative tungsten sound chamber. How could we improve on that? By going bigger, of course!

“The beauty of the 2 Tap is that it’s just a little bit different than the standard. A lot of fish haven’t been conditioned to its double tap sound, and every little advantage helps,” says Strike King pro and 15-time Bassmaster Classic qualifier Shaw Grigsby. “Strike King has added a ¾ oz. version to complement its ½ oz. product, this will be key in scenarios that require fishing a 2 Tap a little deeper, or that call for a bigger profile. The ¾ oz. Tungsten 2 Tap is going to be big deal!”

The ¾ oz. Tungsten 2 Tap Red Eye Shad comes in 20 eye-popping colors and will soon be in stock at better fishing tackle retailers everywhere.

Check back next for the final installment in this series that details the new terminal offerings as well as a couple of “non-bass” baits.

What’s New from You Know Who!

Submitted by Full Limit Outdoor Media

This week is like Christmas in July for anglers and tackle junkies alike. It is the annual ICAST show in which the majority of the fishing and tackle industry come together to showcase their latest new offerings.

And, new products are something that Strike king does well. We spend an enormous amount of time, effort and energy conferring with our pro staff, designers, retailers, etc. researching and designing our future products. ICAST is the time and place where all of those ideas and hours come to life in the form of a new Strike King bait.

Here is are the soft plastic offerings that are new from Strike King. The remaining new products will follow:

8” Bull Worm - There are times when you need a small lure. There are times when you need a big one. Then, there are the times when you need something right in the middle. That is how the all-new 8” Bull Worm came to be. Born out of necessity, the 8” Bull Worm is sure to be a winner!

“Have you ever heard the saying “less is more”? that’s exactly how I feel about the new 8” Bull Worm,” says 5-time Bassmaster Classic qualifier Keith Combs. “I can fish this slightly smaller worm to get more bites, but it’s still bulky enough to attract the quality of fish that I’m looking for. This bait is terror on offshore fish as well as for fishing brushpiles. If I had to choose one finesse-style worm to carry in my boat, this would be it” Combs added.Nigh Time – This is the last “offshore alternative” that we’re going to look at today and it can apply to any lake from coast to coast. Clear, deep, stained, shallow and everything in between can be fished successfully after dark. And, for the record, ledge fishing can be fantastic once the sun sets as the bait and therefore the bass often get up on top of the ledges and get active as the darkness allows the surface layers of the water to cool. However, historically, clearer lakes make better night fishing venues as obviously it’s easier for the bass to locate a bait in the dark in clearer water. This is where you pick up a Tour Grade Night Spinnerbait and hold on tight as the strikes are bone jarring! A 10 Rage Tail Thumper Worm in black paired with a Tour Grade Tungsten weight can also be lights out (pun totally intended). If I had to choose one finesse-style worm to carry in my boat, this would be it” Combs added.

The 8-inch Bull Worm comes in 15 proven colors, including a few that utilize our new Open Pour Technology (OPT).

Drop Shot Half Shell - When Strike King introduced the Dream Shot into the dropshot category, it changed the game. It has a very sleek profile and is super-soft to really offer tremendous action. Well, just as a carpenter needs more than one tool to do a job, a proficient dropshotter does as well. Born out of the collaborative knowledge of Kevin VanDam and Mark Zona, welcome to the unique and all-new Drop Shot Half Shell!

“The new Half Shell was created with the intent of being uniquely different than the Dream Shot, but equally as effective,” says 22-Time Bassmaster Champion, Kevin VanDam. “Due to the profile and consistency of the Half Shell, it offers a very erratic darting action that fish can’t resist. It has a bulky profile and a flat bottom that not only affects the action, it also ensures that it will always stands horizontal on your dropshot rig. Zona and I also really dialed in the colors. Between the profile, action and color, the Half Shell just might become your new favorite dropshot bait!” adds KVD. The new Drop Shot Half Shell is 3.5” long and is offered in 16 exquisite colors, including some beautiful laminates that incorporate our new Open Pour Technology (OPT).

Magnum Rage Bug - Following last year’s launch and impending success of the Rage Bug, our pros as well as consumers flooded us with the exact same request; a bigger version. At Strike King we’ve learned that when those two groups speak, we need to listen. So by popular demand, we are excited to introduce the all new Magnum Rage Bug! “The Rage Bug is a fish-catcher. It has become a go-to bait for several presentations for me. Despite the overwhelming success I’ve had with it, I could often envision the benefit of a larger version,” says Strike King pro and 5-time BASS winner, Todd Faircloth. “The Mag Rage Bug will really shine in flipping and punching scenarios. Its larger profile and therefore increased action will be easy for big bass to find” Faircloth remarked

The all-new Magnum Rage Bug is 4.5” in length and comes in 10 proven colors.

Rage Swimmer - The Rage Tail line of soft plastics by Strike King is industry renowned for its innovative, patented technology. It is known throughout the angling world for its enhanced action and fish-catching ability. All of these qualities are present and pronounced in the all-new Rage Tail Swimmer!

“We’ve known for some time that the Rage Tail properties would translate wonderfully into a swimbait. Through using our design, we can create an unmatched swimming action in a soft plastic bait. The Rage Tail Swimmer is the ultimate example of this,” says Steve Parks, the designer and originator of the Rage Tail line. “We have engineered every single aspect of this bait to achieve the exact swimming action that our pros wanted. From the reverse ribs on the body, to the consistency of the plastic, to the unequaled action of the Rage tail on the bait, this swimbait is dialed in!” Parks adds.

The Rage Tail Swimmer is offered in both 3 ¾” and 4 ¾” versions. Both are available in 10 swimbait-specific colors.

Stay tuned as we bring the remainder of our ICAST introductions, and keep your eye out at your favorite retailer as these will soon be in stock!
