Strike King pro Jay Przekurat lets us in on the most important factor when fishing in Zone 6 during August – temperature.
“For the month of August in Zone 6 you can expect pretty much one thing for the entire month – this is the warmest time of the year for the entire zone,” shares Przekurat. Increased temperatures cause increased appetites so during August, bass are on the hunt for food. “Every bass that swims will be in full out summer mode. Whether that’s deep or shallow, this is the time of year that their metabolism is the highest and they’re ready to eat,” says Przekurat.
Przekurat suggests paying close attention to your bait and finding some form of structure when going after bass in August. “Whether it’s deep bait or shallow bait, that’s the only thing I try and find. Combine both bait with some sort of structure like boulders, grass, sand, or gravel, and you have a recipe for success,” Przekurat advises.
Przekurat concludes with one crucial piece of advice: “Don’t let the hot weather scare you away from the bass fishing this time of year because it can be some of the best you’ll experience!”
If the water is clear, Przekurat prefers Baby Z-Too in Green Pumpkin. In stained water, he switches to Arkansas Shiner. For muddy water, he will favor The Deal.
Przekurat’s choice for clear water is the Rage Bug in Green Pumpkin, while he opts for Summer Craw if the water is stained. In muddy water, he picks up a Junebug.
He opts for Green Pumpkin Gill Sexy Frog in clear water, and switches to a Black if the water is stained.
If the water is clear, he will throw a Blue Craw Thunder Cricket with a Blade Minnow Trailer, while more stained water calls for a Black Blue. In muddy water, Przekurat reaches for Bruiser.
He opts for Green Pumpkin Ocho in clear water. If the water is stained, he will throw the Blue Craw, while he will switch to a Black Blue Flake if the water is muddy.
