Zone 6 – August

Strike King pro Jay Przekurat lets us in on the most important factor when fishing in Zone 6 during August – temperature.

“For the month of August in Zone 6 you can expect pretty much one thing for the entire month – this is the warmest time of the year for the entire zone,” shares Przekurat. Increased temperatures cause increased appetites so during August, bass are on the hunt for food. “Every bass that swims will be in full out summer mode. Whether that’s deep or shallow, this is the time of year that their metabolism is the highest and they’re ready to eat,” says Przekurat.

Przekurat suggests paying close attention to your bait and finding some form of structure when going after bass in August. “Whether it’s deep bait or shallow bait, that’s the only thing I try and find. Combine both bait with some sort of structure like boulders, grass, sand, or gravel, and you have a recipe for success,” Przekurat advises.

Przekurat concludes with one crucial piece of advice: “Don’t let the hot weather scare you away from the bass fishing this time of year because it can be some of the best you’ll experience!”

Zone 6 – August

Strike King and Lew's pro Easton Fothergill gives insight to the best late summer fishing in Zone 6 during August.

Fish will setup on their summertime locations and patterns in August. There will be a healthy population of fish on offshore structure, along with some still lingering shallow. Find the bait this time of year and the bass won't be far behind.

When visibility is at its best, Fothergill throws Black, and Black stays on the line as conditions turn stained and muddy too.

With a fully sealed nose to minimize water entry and a free-floating rattle to pull fish in from a distance, the KVD Sexy Frog is designed and approved by Kevin VanDam for both heavy cover and open water applications.

Fothergill reaches for Black/Blue in muddy water, transitions to Blue Craw once conditions clear up, and ties on Gator Craw when the water is at its clearest.

Designed with a unique Cobra Head and a zero-degree line tie Owner 2X strong Cutting Point hook, the DB Structure Jig is built to reduce hang-ups and drive home solid hooksets in the thickest cover.

For clear water Fothergill ties on Magic Goby, Green Pumpkin Purple is his call in stained conditions, and Black Blue gets the nod when visibility drops in muddy water.

Infused with real coffee bean granules and coffee bean oil, the Coffee Tube 2.75 delivers an earthy scent that big bass can't resist — and keeps them holding on longer.

Chartreuse White is what Fothergill reaches for in clear water, while Bluegill covers both stained and muddy conditions.

Engineered specifically for deep water, the Bottom Dweller is built not to roll on contact with the bottom, using extra weight on the hook shank to keep it tracking true and in the strike zone.

Clear Pumpkin is Fothergill's clear water pick, Grape Whiskey gets the call in stained conditions, and Black/Blue is what he ties on when the water turns muddy.

With multiple ridges, appendages, and cupping on the bottom, the Sexy Bug delivers a mesmerizing wave-like fall that finicky bass simply can't ignore.
